Core connection of joints & blood

Out of all the joints and connections in the human body, the hip joint is one of the largest weight-bearing joints. These joints play a vital role in the stability and mobility of the body. Any damage to this joint will have an impact on regular lifestyle movements.

Avascular necrosis is one of the factors that will cause damage to the hips. It is a deformity that occurs in the joints caused due to lack of blood supply to the head of the femur that leads to its collapse. This can be seen in chain smokers, deep-sea divers, and people who have prolonged steroid use. Usually, the young crowd is more affected by avascular necrosis.

Symptoms
People would experience mild to the moderate hip or groin pain, decreased hip movement, and a limp. At times there could be a sudden pain that gets worse with standing and walking. Usually, men tend to get avascular necrosis between 40 - 50 years old.

Children who are affected by avascular necrosis might have spasms in their hips muscles, restricted hip movements, and a limp. Legg-Calve-Perthes disease is a type of avascular necrosis in children that leads to one of the causes of hip symptoms.

Causes
Avascular necrosis can be caused due to the following:
  • Accidents
  • Hip fractures
  • Dislocations
  • Sickle cell disease
  • Gout
  • Lupus

Hip core decompression for AVN
Usually, doctors would recommend surgery for most people who have avascular necrosis. Surgery is recommended when other treatments fail. Other treatments would include medications, exercises, and electrical stimulation, as well as having a limit on the weight-bearing joints. Doctors would suggest anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce pain.

Core decompression is considered to be a surgical procedure to treat avascular necrosis. It involves surgical drilling into the area of dead bone near the joint. The dead bone would be removed, which helps to stimulate bone production and the development of new blood vessels. Doctors provide stem cell injection along with core decompression. This is performed to harvest bone marrow from the hip bone, the pelvic bone, and then process and inject it after core decompression. This can help increase the blood flow and helps in the long-lasting effect of the treatment. This also helps to reduce pressure, increases the blood flow, and slows the bone/joint destruction. Most often, core decompression is used to treat osteonecrosis.

At Tosh Hospitals,  doctors provide an effective treatment for all the deformities caused in joints and their related problems.
